Reading through a copy of Commercial Motor magazine, Sussex Transport was amused to read of the author and his companion’s trip to France recently.
Headed ‘Annoying the French’ the article tracks the trip from Dover to Calais and then a ‘just for fun’ trip into Paris! In a brand new Renault Premium Artic!
Initially the brave editors contacted Renault Trucks Essex, to borrow a vehicle for a ‘booze cruise’ to Calais in France and were expecting something along the lines of a 3.5t Master panel van, however they were persuaded to use a brand new Renault premium with a 13.6 trailer!
Whilst they were not envisaging such a huge haul of drink, they took up the challenge and agreed!
Imagine their reaction when they were presented with the vehicle which had a union jack livery splashed over the entire cab – the French were going to love this!
The article details their adventure in the eye catching vehicle and their decision to navigate several times around the Arc de Triomphe right in the centre of Paris ‘just for a laugh’. Here they are photographed by intrigued school children, honked at by at least 21 irate French drivers and narrowly escape injury at the hands of one very angry VW Golf driver who scrapes his car against the artic’s step!
Needless to say, at the end of this journey, their budget is pretty much blown and they arrive home with just a single case of wine!
Sussex Transport have made several deliveries to France recently and frequently make dedicated deliveries to European destinations They keep up to speed with the road transport news and legal updates in many ways – including subscribing to Commercial Motor magazine which is crammed full of interesting articles as well as humorous stories such as this one!
Well worth a read!
