Florence was the latest destination for one of our 18t trucks this week as we took the Eurostar to France, through to Florence in Italy.
We were delivering a very large consignment of goods for an extremely prestigious wedding which is due to take place this month.
What a perfect backdrop for a wedding – Florence is thought to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Florence was the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. Politically, economically, and culturally it was the most important city in Europe for around 250 years; from some time before 1300 until the early 1500s.
Artist, Michelangelo lived in Florence for part of his life and completed his most famous structure here; a colossal statue portraying David as a symbol of Florentine freedom. This masterpiece created out of a marble block from local quarries established his prominence as a sculptor of extraordinary technical skill.
It is thought that Micahelangelo may have also painted the Madonna and Child which is now displayed in the National Gallery in London.
