Home of the Mardi Gras (which translated means Fat Tuesday!) New Orleans is where Sussex Transport made another Air Freight delivery this month.
Stock held in our warehouse is prepared for collection by our team and the consignment is ready for it’s onward journey – to New Orleans!
Whilst New Orleans is famous for Hurricane Katrina, the home of Jazz and its cuisine, the Mardis Gras is probably most associated with the town.
Celebrated since 1699, Mardis Gras is held on Shrove Tuesday (or Fat Tuesday!) and is a Carnival celebration well-known throughout the world.
The New Orleans Carnival season, with roots in preparing for the start of the Christian season of Lent , starts after Twelfth Night , on Epiphany (January 6). It is a season of parades , balls (some of them masquerade balls ), and cake parties.
Float riders toss throws to the crowds; the most common throws are strings of plastic colourful beads, doubloons (aluminium or wooden dollar-sized coins), decorated plastic throw cups, and small inexpensive toys.
It’s a busy time for Sussex Transports Freight department – arranging deliveries from our secure warehouse in Lancing, Sussex as far as New Zealand, Taiwan and India this month!
