Iconic Feature for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024

Delivery Time

At Sussex Transport, we pride ourselves on handling complex logistical challenges with precision and efficiency. Our recent collaboration with Littlehampton Welding Limited for the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 exemplifies our expertise in delivering and helping with the unload and installation of large-scale features.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed
For those unaware, the Goodwood Festival of Speed is a premier motorsport event held annually at the Goodwood House in West Sussex. This event celebrates the history and future of automotive innovation, drawing car enthusiasts and industry leaders from around the world. One of the most anticipated highlights of the festival is the central feature sculpture, which this year celebrated 100 years of the iconic British marque MG.

The Central MG Feature
Designed by the renowned Gerry Judah, the 2024 central feature is a breath taking sculpture that honours MG’s rich history. The sculpture consists of a 24-meter diameter hoop threaded by a 33-meter long tapered spar, featuring two cars: the 1962 MG B Roadster and the new MG Cyberster, representing MG’s past and future. The structure is suspended with 24 stainless steel cables, creating a rigid, highly-strung assembly. The total weight of the sculpture, including the cars, is 40 tonnes, all made from steel.

Our Involvement
Transporting such a monumental structure required meticulous planning and execution. Sussex Transport used a fair portion of our artic fleet and our abnormal load service to transport the sculpture components to the Goodwood site near Chichester in West Sussex. The delivery included several oversized pieces, necessitating careful coordination with local authorities, supplier (Littlehampton Welding), and the Goodwood site, to ensure safe and efficient transit.

Upon arrival, our team expertly lifted and positioned the components, facilitating the assembly of the sculpture on-site. The operation highlighted our ability to handle complex and heavy loads, ensuring the feature was delivered seamlessly.

Conclusion
Participating in the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024 and contributing to visual of the iconic central feature was once again a remarkable experience for our team. We are honoured to support such prestigious events and collaborate with esteemed partners like Littlehampton Welding Limited.

We look forward to more opportunities to showcase our capabilities and support the transport and installation needs of our clients. If you have a challenging project that requires expert logistics and handling, contact our experts to learn how we can assist you.
