Sussex Transport based in Lancing on the South Coast run a varied fleet of HIAB, Artic, 18t, 7.5t, rigid, flatbed and curtain side vehicles and operate a dedicated transport service up and down the UK and across Europe.
We are often asked to move unusual or abnormal loads such as hot tubs, valuable art sculptures, equipment for festivals, conferences, concerts, sporting events and exhibitions. So it came as no surprise to our Transport Team last year when we received an enquiry to move a large statue (and to keep the details confidential, in the run up to the job.)
Before we knew it, this ‘’statue’’ was being tweeted about all over the world…. the load we were moving was not just a statue, but in fact the statue of all statues – a 9 metre tall BIG STIG! (#BigStig ) during January and February 2015. This, of course, was ahead of the changes that Top Gear have since been through… Big Stig was created by BBC Worldwide to mark the launch of their new global channel; BBC Brit, which launched in Poland on the 1st February 2015.
He began his journey at the Top Gear track in Dunsfold, travelled across Surrey, Kent & Sussex on a head turning journey and then via a ferry to Holland, Germany and Poland where he was finally stood upright!

The BBC has announced its full presenting line-up for the reboot Top Gear, adding another four new hosts to a line-up that already included TFI Friday presenter Chris Evans and Friends actor Matt LeBlanc. Making up the team of six are racing driver Sabine Schmitz, F1 pundit Eddie Jordan, YouTube star Chris Harris and motoring journalist Rory Reid.
