Sussex Transport regularly moves unusual items for our clients. Totem poles, giant bumble bees, pianos, film sets and helicopters to name but a few! (Have a read through our blog history to find out more!)
Last month we had a request to move several large trees from an address in Surrey to the New Forest in Hampshire.
Using one of our HIAB Lorries made this possible and relatively straight forward – ensuring the trees were moved safely and were undamaged in transit.
Trees are pretty amazing things….
• The amount of oxygen produced by an acre of trees per year equals the amount consumed by 18 people annually. One tree produces nearly 260 pounds of oxygen each year.
• One acre of trees removes up to 2.6 tons of carbon dioxide each year.
• Trees lower air temperature by evaporating water in their leaves.
• One of the tallest soft wood trees is the General Sherman, a giant redwood sequoia of California. General Sherman is about 275 ft or 84 m high with a girth of 25 ft or 8 m.
• The world’s tallest tree is a coast redwood in California, measuring more than 360 ft or 110m.
• The world’s oldest trees are 4,600 year old Bristlecone pines in the USA.
• The largest area of forest in the tropics remains the Amazon Basin, amounting to 81.5 million acres.
• In Arnold, California, a tree still stands with a legible inscription carved into it in 1849 by pioneers blazing paths to California during the Gold Rush. The inscription reads “49 Road.”
• As a hobby, farmer Axel Erlandson shaped trees – he pruned, bent, and grafted trees into fantastic shapes and called them “Circus Trees.” To make the “Basket Tree” Erlandson planted six sycamore trees in a circle and then grafted them together to form the diamond patterns. ( see photo )
