This week we’re something a little different and a first for one of our highly trained hiab drivers. Our drivers travel all around the country on behalf of our customers moving all kinds of weird and wonderful items, and this week was certainly no exception.
Our client, who has been established since the mid-eighties and specialises in the production of heavy duty industrial polythene packaging, has been on the look out for a heavy duty printer. Their search over the months has taken them far and wide until eventually they managed to track down exactly what they were looking for. After successfully bidding at an auction, they made a phone call to Sussex Transport to arrange a collection from a company that had sadly gone bust and were situated on an industrial estate in Brighouse, West Yorkshire.
The following afternoon we sent our hiab driver on his merry way. 6 hours later he arrived at his destination just off the M62 south of Leeds.
The following morning when the warehouse opened their doors, our driver was ready and waiting to assess the situation for lifting and loading. Thankfully, because we were expected, the massive printer had already been decommissioned and positioned conveniently just inside the warehouse door. Our driver was able to adjust his crane accordingly to make it low enough to go through the opening of warehouse door, where he was then able to attach the cranes’ hook through the eyes of the lifting chains already secured to the printer. The hiab was then ideally positioned to manoeuvre the 6 ton printer and with a little guidance from the on site forklift driver, the machine was slowly and carefully moved out of the building leaving our driver to expertly lift the printer onto the bed of his vehicle.
Once loaded and safely secured to his vehicle, our driver was quickly back on the road and on his way for a 4 hour return journey back down south to his delivery destination of Woodley, near Reading in Berkshire.
Our customer had a crew waiting on site at Woodley for the printers arrival. Our driver removed his securing straps from the machine, then quickly and effortlessly lifted the printer off the vehicle. Before you knew it, he had stowed his crane away and was on his way to his next challenge.
