The 2020 Covid-19 lockdown continues to frustrate; projects have stalled and sites have closed. But there are signs of a return as construction sites begin to open once again. Our team and fleet function operate as key partners to many developers in the construction industry across London and the South East and we continue to provide transport, storage, lifting and haulage solutions throughout the Capital and across the UK – all the time keeping within the government-recommended limits surrounding social-distancing.
Our expertise in moving large (and small!) items of equipment was recently tested when we were asked to deliver a rather important staircase from West Sussex to Governers House, in Central London.
** job carried out prior to lockdown
Governers House is prime City of London Grade A office development set on an island site in a conservation area, close to Cannon Street station, London Bridge and Monument Underground station, among other landmarks.
The existing building was demolished and new Grade A offices across 11 floors were developed. The construction project was complex as the site is situated over the location of the old Roman Governor’s Palace and as such was an Ancient Scheduled Monument.
The development has seen varied tenants over the years, but we were asked to transport a new staircase to Governers House, to continue refurbishment work that was being undertaken. Our lifting team along with our crane / hiab fleet made the entire process as smooth and straightforward as it could possibly be – which is no mean feat in the sometimes small and busy streets of Central London!
