Glastonbury Festival is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Pilton, Somerset. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. Films and albums recorded at Glastonbury have been released, and the festival receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world and is now attended by around 175,000 people requiring extensive infrastructure in terms of security, transport, water, and electricity supply. The majority of staff are volunteers, helping the festival to raise millions of pounds for charitable organisations.
We have just taken some late last-minute instructions from a new customer who is looking to transport a number of refurbished Portakabins from West Sussex to the Glastonbury Festival site in Pilton, Somerset…. The festival is just over a week away and these portakabins are very much last-minute.
It’s going to be tight but we at Sussex Transport thrive on a challenge, so we have put a plan together which involves having our “A Team” of drivers and the required number of both artic flatbeds and hiabs ready and waiting early to load the portakabins and then drive straight to site at Glastonbury. Upon arrival, our client will meet our drivers with instructions as to where the portakabins need to be offloaded and ultimately placed, saving precious time. Due to the chaos that normally engulfs both the start and the finish of these festivals being able to use our own hiab crane vehicles to offload both themselves and the artics as well as being able to position the portakabins in situ puts us in a very enviable self sufficient position and therefore doesn’t add any unnecessary strain or pressure to the sites loading/offloading facilities which generally get booked up well in advance.
We are very much used to reacting to “just in time” requests from our customers and we thrive on the challenges they set us… it’s all in a days work for us!!
Let’s just hope the weather is kinder than in previous years! Although it’s not looking promising.
With this in mind, why not let Sussex Transport be your “just in time” partner in crime and let us be the solution to all your problems?
We have a diverse fleet of vehicles to accommodate your every need.
