At Sussex Transport, we thrive on challenges, and our recent project at the breathtaking Doddington Place was no exception. This historic Victorian mansion, located on an expansive 850-acre Edwardian estate, was the site of a complex lifting and logistics operation that showcased our expertise in delivering, offloading, and positioning heavy structures with precision and care.
The Challenge: Delivering and positioning a Large Steel Structure
Our task was to collect a large steel structure from the manufacturer and deliver it to Doddington Place Gardens. The historic estate, renowned for its immaculate grounds and heritage architecture, posed a unique set of challenges for the project. The structure’s final location was within the estate, across grassed terrain, requiring extra care to protect the grounds while ensuring the structure was precisely offloaded and positioned for the install team.
While our own HIAB crane vehicle have the capacity to lift, unload and place the structure, the ground conditions near the installation site presented logistical hurdles. To avoid damage to the lawns and mitigate the risk of getting stuck on soft ground, we collaborated with a mobile crane to handle the extra reach and ensure a smooth, damage-free lift.
Managing Every Detail: Contract Lift Expertise
This project was a textbook example of our contract lift capabilities, with our team taking control of every aspect of the lift. From specifying the appropriate lifting equipment to coordinating logistics and managing on-site operations, we handled it all.
Working in collaboration with the estate’s team and the mobile crane operators, we ensured that the steel structure was carefully delivered, offloaded, and positioned to meet the client’s precise specifications—all while preserving the integrity of Doddington Place’s pristine grounds.
