We recently blogged about vehicle marshallers, “what is a vehicle marshaller? AKA traffic marshall or banksman” and the training that marshallers must go through in order to keep site, workers, and visitors safe.

This time we’re moving up, not just in number of signals, but physically upwards.  To cranes!

When a site crane, mobile crane, or a truck mounted crane is in operation a slinger / signaller becomes the the eyes and ears of the crane operator.

An operator could be way up in the crane operating chair or in the cab of the vehicle, but quite often they will have obstructed views.  As a result, hand signals from the signaller are often crucial to the operation and safety on site.

The current (at the time of blogging) code of practice pre-determined hand signals are as below.
