Sussex Transport regularly make dedicated deliveries on their fleet of Artic, Moffett, HIAB, 7.5t, 18t and sprinter vehicles up and down the UK.
Last week we made a delivery to Cuckfield, Sussex for a client using one of our Sprinters vans.
The name of Cuckfield is not known for definite; however it is generally associated with the cuckoo which is the village emblem. Once an important stop for up to 50 coaches a day travelling between London and Brighton back in the 1820’s, Cuckfield lost its importance for transport links in 1840 when the railway line was constructed and ran through neighbouring Haywards Heath
Donkey racing was a popular activity from 1951 – 1965 and the Donkey Grand National was held on Bank Holiday Monday in August – spectators numbered around 10,000!
The ghost of “Geranium Jane” was said to haunt the Kings Head pub. Back in the 19th century, a young girl named Jane was said to have had an affair with the landlord – who upon discovering she was pregnant, dropped a flowerpot of geraniums on her head as she walked below an open window. Her ghost was always accompanied by the strong scent of geraniums!
