The recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) cannot have gone unnoticed – it has caused uncertainty, disruption and loss for thousands of people worldwide and reports of new outbreaks continue each day since news first broke. At the time of writing, efforts were still being made to quarantine those who are infected and measures being put in place to limit the spread of the virus.
The outbreak has caused concern health authorities wary of potentially-infected people coming into contact with otherwise healthy people in Accident & Emergency waiting rooms. The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton (not far from the Sussex Transport offices in Lancing) have taken the steps to use Shipping Containers as makeshift ‘isolation pods’ to help restrict interaction between those who may be infected and those who aren’t.
The pods are simple 10-20 ft Containers which are an ideal use for a container. By design, containers are durable, flexible and very secure, with the added benefit that they are versatile in they can be lifted to any place that can accommodate them and they can even be stacked, if ground space is limited.
Whilst the outbreak is causing much concern for many worldwide, we noticed this and thought it was a good use of an everyday piece of equipment, and one we sell and hire regularly through our other enterprise, ST Containers and transport them through our own Sussex Transport vehicles.
