Sussex Transport made a delivery of building materials on one of its 7.5t trucks last week – to the new Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth.
The Mary Rose was raised in 1982 in front of a worldwide television audience of 60 million people, having been buried at sea since it was sunk in July 1545.
Henry V111 flagship has been stored in a museum since its raising and over 20 million visitors have viewed this incredibly preserved piece of history!
Currently under construction is a new museum which has been planned since 2005. This new museum will house the fully conserved hull and displayed in a way that allows visitors to come up close, without restrictive visual barriers. In September 2009 the temporary Mary Rose display hall was finally closed to visitors to facilitate construction of the new £35 million museum building, which is expected to open to the public in 2012.
